Marketplace Terms & Service Agreement

Please read these terms carefully before using the Oririka marketplace mobile application, website, or ordering services. By accessing or placing orders, you agree to be bound by these Scottish and UK-regulated terms.

1. About Oririka & Marketplace Structure

Oririka operates a digital marketplace facilitating orders between buyers and independent vendors, including African cooked food restaurants, licensed grocery merchants, and specialty drink suppliers in Scotland and the United Kingdom.

Each vendor is an independent business legally responsible for food hygiene, ingredients, allergen accuracy, and preparation according to Food Standards Scotland (FSS) guidelines.

2. 24-Hour Payout Escrow & Buyer Protection

To provide industry-leading protection exceeding conventional delivery platforms, all payments made by buyers are held securely in a protected Escrow Trust account for up to 24 hours post-delivery.

  • Funds are only disbursed to the vendor once delivery has been verified or after the 24-hour dispute window has lapsed without unresolved claim.
  • In the event of non-delivery, damaged goods, or spoiled items, buyer claims submitted through the Help & Support desk are resolved before escrow disbursement.

3. Smart Grocery Substitutions

For authentic African groceries and provisions that may occasionally be out of stock, vendors utilize the Oririka Smart Substitute Engine.

Buyers are notified in real-time via Web Push and app alerts with a side-by-side comparison of the proposed replacement and price difference. The buyer has sole discretion to Accept Substitute or Decline & Receive Instant Refund to their payment method.

4. Group Orders (“Chop & Share”)

Group orders allow multiple participants to add items into a shared basket. When Fair Share Split Pay is enabled, each participant is individually charged for their subtotal plus an equal share of courier delivery and service fees.

The order will only dispatch to the kitchen once all invited participants have completed their individual payment transactions prior to the lock deadline.

5. Age Verification for Alcoholic Drinks

Orders containing African alcoholic beverages (e.g., Star, Gulder, Palm Wine, Nigerian Guinness) are strictly restricted to customers aged 18 and over in accordance with the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. Challenge 25 ID verification is required by couriers upon delivery.

6. Cancellations & Refunds

Cooked food orders may only be cancelled prior to kitchen acceptance. Once a kitchen begins preparation, cancellations are subject to vendor discretion. Grocery orders may be amended or cancelled prior to dispatch.

7. Account Termination & Self-Service Data Erasure

In compliance with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, buyers and merchant vendors have the right to terminate their accounts at any time through our automated self-service erasure tool.

Upon initiating account deletion via Member Profile or Vendor Dashboard, all authentication tokens, phone numbers, addresses, and personal credentials are permanently scrubbed from active databases. Vendors terminating their merchant status will have their digital storefront and menu listings permanently unpublished.

8. Cookie Consent & Electronic Notifications

By using Oririka, you agree to our placement of essential cookies necessary to maintain authenticated sessions and manage checkout baskets. Optional performance analytics are subject to your consent via our Cookie Consent Banner and may be updated at any time in accordance with our Privacy & Cookie Policy.

You consent to receive real-time operational notifications (including kitchen order acceptance, live courier GPS progress, and smart substitute notices) via Web Push, email, or SMS. You may configure alert preferences within your browser or profile settings.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Scotland. Any disputes arising in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
